Picture post - sight-seeing with Max the gorilla

That's not the gorilla - that's Lucifer the cat, going to sleep on the warm windowsill with the heater under it.

That's Max the gorilla - at

Outside the coffee shop, on one of the ornamental lions that are spread all over the city, as a sort of art project and tourist magnet

View in the other direction - that's Odeonsplatz, with the former palace in the background. Right in the heart of touristy Munich, our coffee shop is!

At the Orthodox church - it's been there since the 1820s when a Bavarian prince briefly became king of Greece and lots of Greeks came to Munich

Old city palaces, with the tower of the cathedral ('Frauenkirche') in the background

Max the gorilla and a modern statue of Goethe in front of the best hotel in Munich where the Nato Security Conference meets every year, and state visitors stay - of a rank with, say, the Hotel Europa in St. Petersburg. It's called 'Bayrischer Hof'

No gorilla in that picture - but a pretty blue Munich tram!

At the back of the town hall - that's not a medieval building, merely 19th century pseudo-medieval

At the central square, Marienplatz - lots of really old buildings in the background, among them the old town hall with its tower. The tall building to the right labelled 'Hugendubel' is the biggest bookshop in Munich - the entire house nothing but book, books, boks! The signs 'U' and 'S' mean that the stairs go down to the subway and underground trains. There is a difference, but it's too complicated to explain.
