You don't have to take time to "work" with it, my dear Mercredi. After you created it, it's there anyway; you can talk to it whenever you want and ask it to help you with certain areas of getting what you want that you're not so good at and the entity is, by its very definition.

I've had great experiences with all my entities, both in directly consulting with them about some issue at hand and in having them independently achieve something for me. It's a give and take, too, as they get reality and attention from me; and when I have nourished them long enough and well enough, they begin surprising me and start leading a more independent and unforseen existence.

I don't hold with sitting down and doing ceremonies, though; I best talk to them while walking somewhere boring on my own.
