It's not a rule or law, but sensible people who have been to London or other places where it's more ingrained have brought it. On the long escalators down to the train station here (or up from), people always stand on the right and walk on the left.
But it's not a rule, and there are no signs or anything. Random breeders clogging escalators with their huge baby carriages always happen, too, even though there is a perfectly good elevator. They happen especially often when I have only seconds to catch my train...
