An ancient joke I heard from an ancient Bavarian: At the border between Bavaria and Austria, some unhappy individual has hung himself on a tree just this side of the border. When a Bavarian border patrol comes by, they wonder what to do, decide they don't want all the hassle with the paperwork etc., take him down, and then hoist him up again on a tree just a few steps inside Austria, and walk on. After a while, an Austrian patrol comes by, and they stare at the corpse and go, 'How very odd, now he's back again!'
