This thing with stealing a coin from a child even after the bishop is very odd.

That's brick!canon. The incident with Petit Gervais is kind of heartbreaking, but pivotal to Valjean's change. The bishop sets the wood for his change, and Gervais lights it - and I am going to stop, before I start meta'ing again.

This sounds promising! And I am now gutted that I remember that I couldn't find a version with English subtitles. I guess I really am going to have to learn French. Bah.

The Thenardier's set-up sounds like a faithful adaptation of the brick, where Fantine comes across Madame T, with Eponine playing on a swing. The happy-seeming family is what prompts her to leave Cosette with them in the first place, despite getting fleeced for 60 francs off M. T straight away. I like the way it sounds like they're really making an effort with it.

And IIRC, Sister Simplice is in Montreuil in the brick? She's the one who lies to Javert to save Madeleine's ass, despite never having lied in her life, thus providing a beautiful foil to Javert's never having lied either to show how dishonesty for the sake of conscience is more Godly than absolute honesty.

Augh, I want to see this, and I can't. So frustrating!
