I never really close my door, either. I want to hear what's going on. When the editors and the proof-readers are snarking at each other in the production office, that's fun! Sometimes, people mutter curses to themselves in the corridors, and then there's that mental proof-reader who makes strange noises so I can pop out and go "Will you bloody stop those bloody mental noises!" at him.
Plus, I always heare if the Powers That Be are going to descend on the printer in my office, so I can change from the LJ tab to the legitimate work tab.
I only close the door if a colleague comes to unburden themselves about something that really doesn't work for them, or we make our own conspiracy.
