No good deed goes unpunished...
... and I am punished frightfully for something I did this morning: I installed a copy of Kyodai mahjongg on my mother's newly revived computer so she'll have something else to play than just Solitaire and Free Cell while practising with the spiny ball under her foot to loosen her bad knee. I suggeested that to her, so I felt responsible for her entertainment during the excercise...
Since then she has been playing and playing, all the while frobbing that spiny ball under her sole; she even missedd the news, normally almost sacred with my parents.
I will never ever give my mother another game to play, I swear!
The problem's not the addiction, that will be over in a few days - the problem is that my mother and her computer use the desk in my former room, where my own little foldup computer has found its temporary abode and where I sleep as well. She sits in my room, and she won't go away - so I can neither do nefarious things online nor go to sleep.
I am sure you can hear me wail right from where you are...

I got my predilection for licorice and porcelain from her. If I want to see her truly ecstastic, all I have to do is give her something with crossed blue swords on the bottom for Christmas, her birthday, mother's day or some such occasion; licorice, unfortunately, is a bit easier to come by here, so she gets it herself.
Last night, she was here till half past one, wiggling her "Igelball" and trying to crack the mahjongg...
deep sigh

If your mom is like mine, though, the game addiction will never go away. My mom only gets on the comp to play that game, and she'll do it until someone begs the comp away from her.
