To everybody in Finland that wants to start a band -- and believe me, you will eventually need this seemingly random factoid:

The English word 'sword' (Suomeksi: 'miekka') is NOT pronounced 'svurd' to rhyme with 'word', but 'sssawd', to rhyme with 'sort'. Sort of. Please remember this when you write lyrics for your original songs. Especially rhyming on this word may become awkward. Thank you!

I think sword rhymes more with board.

Reminds me of a great goth song a friend sent me. Sounds great until the chorus, when I get the definite feeling the band suddenly shows off this thick accent (Swedish? Finnish?) and has NO idea what the words mean. I think they didn't get around to translating that part.

Song lyrics are a law unto themselves. I've heard find rhymed with wind [as in more than a breeze less than a hurricane].

I was in the train, going to work, and listening to my MP3 player, and there were Korpiklaani, singing about 'golden svurds', and I remembered the Nightwish song from their first album, 'Elvenpath', where she sings about 'magic and mighty svurds', also.

So I thought it was something Finnish bands would be prone to, and took it upon me to issue a general warning.-
