Postal

Some people compose poems while waiting in one of those interminable post office queues...

Seems it's like that everywhere, not just here.

:) Thanks.

Actually, I composed this when I came back, furious from the post office, and ready to write an angry post to vent all the things I'd wanted to say to them.

What actually happened was that I got a piece of cardboard saying they were holding one of my letters hostage until they received the ransom payment. Last time I tried to do it by post and it took two months to get the letter back, so this time I went along. Stood in the queue for forty minutes. Got to the front. Was told it was in the other post office on the same road. Went to the other post office. Queued another forty minutes. Was told that I was at the wrong department and I had to go next door.

At which point I opened my mouth and loudly exclaimed something on the lines of "You're kidding, I've already had to wait over an hour at two different post offices!" and was told "It's not my fault you can't read, get out! I'm not kidding."

I apologised profusely not because I wanted to, but because I was half afraid she'd have me arrested for verbal assault for raising my voice and also because I needed to know where I had to go. I understand her point; I wasn't actually raising my voice intentionally at her so much as the post office in general but it wasn't very nice of me. That said, if I'd said something like that to a customer when I worked in retail, I'd have been sacked.

When I finally got to the right place, it took a further twenty minutes to retrieve the letter, which was a whole 29p underpaid for by my mother. I held my tongue until I had my letter, then exclaimed to the room as I was leaving 'Do you know, in the time I've had to wait in post offices today statistically I have lost one ovum?'

So, er, there are now two post offices I can't use again XD.

Not too long ago I had a shouting match with one of the ladies at my post office because of the ridiculous high rates.
I know it was not her fault but I paid 30€ for letters that would not have cost me 10€ if mailed from Austria.
Unfortunately it is not practicable to go to Salzburg to mail my stuff. :-(
