It's fun to sit at my computer with enough coffee to fuel my brain, the cats curled up and sleeping right beside me, and write a 4,800 word light essay-let about bodice rippers that I will actually be paid good money for. I didn't know I know so much about romance novels, but between being in a game founded by a professional romance writer as a playground for her friends, my main Milli!charrie having a lover from a science fiction detective romance series (Oh, I will go on about genre pile-ups! And tropes!), all the borderline purple stuff in Laurel K. Hamilton, and my mother with her horrid preference for Rosamunde Pilcher, I can wing this. Off the cuff. Without getting professorial or defensive or derisive or snarky. And I will totally mention Charlie Monroe, just because I can. Getting paid for mentioning my Milli!Teja's lover is utterly cool.

By which I keep my envy at bay, because the Nazgul seems to have landed the coolest job evah. It's probably not all right to say which exactly (because that automatically tells you where), but it's a job that quite a lot of you here on my flist is either secretly dying, or openly studying very hard, to get. And she has it since today. Just like that. The downside is, it seems to pay peanuts and eggshells, but then, OMG, she really gets to have Lirael's old job, in a way...

It's alright, you can tell.
It's a really cool place but not much to do this time of the year. I've been told it gets a bit more crowded in spring.

I have three people on my flist who might drop dead with longing for a job like that on the spot... Three that I can name off the cuff! I like them alive.

Well, you have time to develop routines so you have them when it gets busy, instead of being dropped into the maelstrom, so to speak.

it's cool you can rp yours without problem because teja's canon is all public now. nora roberts is sort of still alive and can still prosecute people for copyright infringement.

Oh dear, I'm not mentioning any RPage in that article thing, good grief! In the end, I had to edit it harshly for length and only a passing mention of the canon managed to remain in it while I was giving examples for genre pile-up ('sci-fi detective romance'). Anyway, it's not a fandom wite-up of any kind, but really an article for general consumption, for an unspectacular little magazine people get in bookshops for free that wanted a general overview over the genre of romance as such. I had done such articles about science fiction, fantasy, and graphic novels for them before that.

Assistant librarian in an awesome place, yes. She gets to work scanning stuff and sending books off for remote lending at the International Youth Library at Blutenburg castle on the edge of Munich. It's a genuine old castle, and a totally unique library. If not much else is happening, she can sit at her desk in the stacks, in the basement of the castle, the rooms made up of bookshelves, and read books about the Harry Potter phenomenon and suchlike...
