Both bikes ship-shape

Today I was very good: I repaired both my bikes!

Lottemie, my sturdy red bike I use in the village where I work to ride from the station to work, just needed a new saddle as during the frost the gel in her saddle had frozen, and the cover material had become slightly holey from the ice crystals inside, and one of the holes had expanded to an almighty slash where the gel was oozing out. So, a new saddle for Lottemie. Plus good pressurised air for her wheels as we were at the bike shop anyway.

Eowulf, my high-strung purple bike I use from home, needed all the rubber bits on his back wheel replaced as the rubber had gone hard and crumbly with time. The fellow at the bike shop didn't have the proper tube new any more, so he gave me a slightly used one for free, saying there was something flaky about its valve according to the previous owner, but he hoped I would be fine. When I'd reassembled the bike, the valve did indeed let out air. I fiddled a bit, and the valve came loose - it simply wasn't screwed in properly! I hadn't known that so-called French valves can be unscrewed, but obviously, they can. I like learning new things about bicycle repair! So, I took the pliers and screwed it in properly, and now it holds the air just as it's supposed to. So, I got a perfectly good tube for totally free.

Both my bikes can be relied on again now - I feel so much better.
