July 25! Great timing, as I'll be looking around for something to watch after the World Cup.

Ah, Betty Draper. SUCH a rotten mother, entitled, infuriating, judgmental. I'm hoping that her jaunt to Reno will broaden her outlook a bit. I do like Henry. I hope he helps bring out her better side, but I suspect she'll just fall into old patterns.

Those kids are WAY better off with Carla.

I shall crawl into a hole during the World Cup; I hate the frenzy that takes people here, with big TVs in every pub and café and people gathering there on purpose (they all have friggin' TVs at home) to shout and all be orcs together. **shudders** And the cars with the German flags -- eurgh! **hates**

Ahh, but yes, Betty Draper. The way she made Don take the blame in the final episode was atrocious. He had his kids accusing him for leaving them, especially Sallie, and wasn't even allowed to say 'Your mother is kicking me out'. No, everything has to be Betty's way. Her house, her kids, her dog, her car. Her fainting couch.

Mind you, I do like the fainting couch, but it belongs in a big space by itself, being such a heft item of furniture, not cramped into that little corner.-

Oh, you should move here until July. I remember how eerie it was in 2002, knowing that we'd made it to the quarter finals and no one noticed. I cannot imagine that happening in any other country on Earth (except maybe Canada).

I must be the only person who loves that fainting couch, in a twisted fashion. I love how the decorator had to EXPLAIN to Betty what a "hearth" was and how/why it was the focal point of the room. Your friends and family gather around it and you all have a nice bonding experience. Fuck THAT, thinks Betty, and puts her big ol' honking masturbation fainting couch RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE FIREPLACE where absolutely no one else can squeeze in. In a narcissistic sort of fashion, that's awesome in its sheer self-involvement.

Well, the 'hearth' is just for show. Nobody gathers there. When they sit the children down in the living room, the children are worried because the living room is only for formal entertaining and the like. The family usually sits (used to sit) in the kitchen, or the small room with the TV and the slightly ratty couch with the crocheted blanket on. It's not really lived in; it's just there. So with the fainting couch, Betty at least takes it over for herself, partially.

I do like the thing. Just not where she put it. It needs much more space around it.
