Tumblr is down!

There were some error messages about maintenance this morning, and then it went away completely and hasn't been back for at least four hours.

I'm sure it wasn't scheduled that way.

Sounds more as if they took it down for that maintenance and now can't get it up any more.

I dutifully went "OMG and made the Munch 'Scream' face even though I have only the vaguest idea what tumblr is. I'd assumed it was a bit like photobucket so its absence would be a temporary inconvenience rather than a tragedy of epic proportions - as if, say LJ or Facebook crashed and burned.

Is that where all the cool kids hang out now?

It's a photoblogging site, first and foremost, and something of an aggregator where things get reblogged a lot, and collected on other tumblrs (with proper crediting, that is important there) so specialised subjects end up being sifted out of a wide stream of images and ideas.

I went there first to mostly watch the discourse in the Fat Acceptance movement (which happens there a lot, complete with fashion; this is how I notices Mia Tyler), and don't post much. By now, I watch two or three 'Mad Men' related resources there as well, and my friend Stephan, who has three regular blogs (not with many pictures) there. He last posted something in praise of Windows 7...

Then the site went down. Explanations are extant; Stephan pointed me to the Twitter account Tumblr runs to keep people appraised of things.-
