Running commentary on 'Mad Men' 4.01
- Tricksy creators made us think SCDP still operate out of the hotel suite at first! But they have an office again and OMG that cool logo! So when are we?
- Joan has her own office!
- Peggy is so cool and self-assured now
- Odd shabby little place Don lives in. He seems a little bereft. All the women he wants isn't all that much fun if he's not cheating on his wife. And there's that odd, quiet passivity of his again...
- What a silly blonde chick! So totally not Don's prey pattern. He likes his women independent, thoughtful, and experienced. But of course, one can't expect Jane to know that. She only knows Betty, of course.
- Poor little Sallie -- still rebellious as she was, this time against her step-family. Things do tend to land on her and get left there for her to deal with. I really hope when the whole series is finished, they'll tell us what became of the characters. I'm sure Sallie's life is going to have been interesting.
- Don is into BDSM now?? **jawdrop**
- Does this mean Betty still lives in that house with that Henry bloke and Don is still paying mortgage and taxes? Of course, she knows Don's secret and has him by the balls like that, but I thought Henry wouldn't live at somebody else's expense like that!
- Ahh, I was right about Henry. It's Betty terrorising Don on purpose, or out of entitlement. You know, up until the end of season 3, I was undecided about Betty, but then (and ever more thoroughly now) came to the conclusion that she's just an entitled blonde bitch.
- I think my mother had the same hairstyle Peggy has now, but a few years later. She had it cut short when she had me, and basically had the same haircut ever since, still with the poufe effect on top.
- I think I like Henry's mother, at second glance...
- Don's a bona fide star in his field now -- and starts to behave like one.

BTW, the time is late November, 1964.

As for Betty, let's see how long Henry can stand her. And I really look forward to see in which ways Sallie Draper will rebel before the decade and the series are out.
