Harry Potter 7

Harry Potter 7 -- am I the only one who feels that having EIGHT parts will be bad luck? Anyway, here are my impressions of the movie, in bullet points:
  • I liked how the Death Eaters' 'aesthetic' was clearly meant to be fascistoid. It may be a bit in-your-face didactically, but this gets seen by American small-town teenagers as well, and will inoculate them against that sort of stuff.
  • I immediately liked Luna's dad. He's got a certain something. A hippie-esque, loony fringe something, but certainly interesting. Then, later, I found out he is Rhys Ifans, the skinny fuzzy icky room-mate from 'Notting Hill'!
  • And Snape, striding and billowing and being dark and glowering! And Lucius Malfoy being slightly scruffy.
  • Actually, I always saw the Thunderstruck Tower as the hinge point of the story, and expected the movie to end there, with our heroes limping away from it. Of course, the remaining 20 minutes or so introduced very important plot points.
  • Talking about plot points: there was no hint of Snape/Lily yet, and just a tiny hint of Dumbledore/Grindelwald (if you knew where to look).
  • The closing titles were an absolute disappointment. Nothing out of the ordinary, no interesting animations, no easter egg, no friggin' nothing. We waited until it was completely over, but there was nothing.

I just got back from seeing it and our theater didn't even raise the lights during the credits - usually a sign of something-something to come, but I figured if there had been something I'd have been spoiled by it before then and left. Good to know my hunch was correct and I didn't waste my time.

Did you feel that there was enough story for the running time, or did they pad it out? DH doesn't seem story-full enough to me to warrant two entire movies.
