My cats go the other way. Very wide.

Mephisto isn't quite as long, but instead skinny and awkward. He looks like a crash-landed bat at times.

I have often pondered the relationship of cats and bats...

Which brings me to my favorite folk tale:

There is a Spanish-Jewish folk-tale about a vampire cat called 'El Broosha.' According to legend, Lilith was the first wife of Adam, but left him and flew away as a vampire. After becoming immortal she took the shape of a large black cat that stalked babies at night, sucking out their blood. It has been suggested by author Mildred Kirk that this myth could be the origin of the idea that cats should not occupy the same room as a sleeping baby, as the animal might suffocate the child by sitting on its face.

You know cats were not around before the Ark, right?

Ancient Hebrew folklore tells of an incident in the Ark that resulted in the creation of the first cats. Apparently, before the flood there were no cats. But there was a pair of lions and there was fear that the shaggy beasts would attack the other animals. So Noah prayed to God for a solution. God answered by putting the lions into a deep sleep. When one problem was solved, another arose. Suddenly the Ark was overrun with mice. Noah got down on his knees again and prayed for a solution. God suggested that Noah whack the sleeping male lion on the nose. He did, the lion sneezed, and out of his nostrils came the first pair of cats. The rodent problem was solved.

I say, the mere sight of Mephisto's yawning cavernous mouth would strike fear in the rodent population in my barn. :)

Now that I reflect on it, that cat does look like he just got sneezed out.

Well, it would have had to by a mightily big lion to sneeze out a cat as solid as Lucifer. Mephisto, now, he is quite narrow. I can see that for him.-

Yes, that's him. They're brothers, actually, from the same mother but different litters.

Lucifer has blue eyes. I tend to think of that as Persian or Siamese.

Oh no, he hasn't really -- that was just the reflection of the flash in his eyes. In normal light, he has amber eyes, turning a bit greener towards the inside, just like Mephi's.
