Little Bavarian oddities -- picture post

Here are some small observations from the last few days, minus the spider who is in another post so even the arachnophobes on my flist can safely look at the pretty lake views!




The Pirates of Penzance Prien. I don't know why they need a pirate pub in the mountains. The lake here is sometimes nicknamed 'Bavarian Sea', but it's really not big enough to justify pirates. All they could pilfer and pillage and burn would be tourists and nuns, anyway, and the nuns are decidedly elderly and not really wench material...



To the general amusement of all, local authorities put up a Christmas tree on the headland from which you can see the Herrenchiemsee castle last Wednesday. WTF Christmas tree -- it's almost summer still.

Ooops, nearly mid-November. But anyway, it felt quite ridiculous.



Evening impressions, today. The morning was foggy, but from noon onwards, their was a cloudlessly blue sky, and this rather dramatically beautiful dusk.

I love your pictures, it looks like a beautiful place. Yeah, that's early for a Christmas tree but they seem to be getting put up earlier and earlier.

It's not all that early -- the first advent Sunday is only two weeks away. It's just that the weather is so late this year, we're not ready for holiday season yet...

And yes, it is a beautiful place. If I have to be banished someplace to do sports and not be with my cats, this is a very good place for it.

Yes, I thought I shouldn't ruin the fun and pretty pictures with that spider. I like watching the spiders, but I know they're very offputting to others.
