I read that it was something to do with the Celtic moon calendar, in western tradition, where the 13th day of a moon-month was always dedicated to some fertility goddess (what Friday is -- named after Freya/Frigga in Germanic languages, and after Venus as 'Vendredi' etc. in Latin-based languages), and the mid-early Christians (think the time when Christianity became mainstream and the state religion etc.) went 'Ick!' at its heathen AND Jewish meaning, and declared it was terribly bad luck.-
To distract them, I just shook the treat box and got them to come here. Also, what point is there in cats if you don't get to cuddle them and/or take pictures of them?
Well, pictures of Mephi are now possible, with the Pentax.
LOLOLOL at the treat box. Yeah, that's pretty much it. Even the hissing spitting cobra/psycho feral Siamese cat is putty in my hands when I whip out the rotissiere chicken.
Oh, absolutely. Isn't that why one has them? **innocent**
And Mephi is being all emo now -- he denies there being room on my divan for both my cats to be with me (which there is) and sits a bit away, giving Lucifer and me those NOBODY LOVES ME emo looks.
Jakob does this new thing (this is the rabidly feral kitten I picked up at a Wallflowers concert on 6th St under an a/c unit starving to death and nursed to health. He then disappeared for a year, came back, I neutered him, and now he is all mamma's boy): I'm lying trying to sleep and he will perch on the headboard and wait. Just when I least expect it, there it is! A paw on my cheek. It would be one thing if there was not a daily occurence! I will push his paw away -- God knows where it has been -- and roll over huffily. He'll wait another few minutes and then -- there it is! A paw on my cheek.
I don't have the heart! He never had a mamma. She got hit by a car. And there's this neediness to him. I keep thinking if I just love and cuddle him enough he'll get over it and be a normal aloof cat. I mean, he's a tank! He weighs in at 21 pounds!
I even have his baby pictures! From the very first night we brought him home (the bouncers in the bar gave me a cardboard box for him. The noise in the place was deafening and I didn't want him to stay there so I took him to the car.)
He was so tiny he fit in one hand -- very malnourished though the vets thought he was about 5 weeks old. I bought a bottle and kitten formula and HE CHEWED THE NIPPLE OFF. I was like, right, let's go straight to wet food. He would growl and sit on the food while he ate it - I rather imagine that is what he did when he was in the wild, sitting on the bird or rat he was eating. He slept on my chest that night and the next morning we went to the vet's to get checked out (cuz feline AIDS and distemper is our harsh reality here :(((( ).
He was incredibly healthy for being so dehydrated and malnourished so home we came. It was hot that summer and he has allergies so I remember putting him on ice packs.
I think they are on photoucket but if not my daughter will have them. She keeps all that stuff. (Technologically inept, remember? I scream in frustration when I can't get my laptop to work).
Oh I forgot to tell you! Last night I came home late from the barn so it was pitch black. My dog had rolled in something unpleasant so I decided to enter through the back (so I would leave her out until I got her bathed). I switched on the light -- and nearly stepped on newborn kittens! One of them was white (Siamese). The mother was nowhere to be seen so I picked them up and wrapped them in towels.
But when I came back she had moved them. :(
Still, it's always exciting to see them when they are first born -- all covered with blood and eyes shut and what have you. I hope I can find them! The Siamese ones have a waiting list for adoption.
Unfortunately between the coyotes and the owls, they don't stand much of a chance. :(
Only if I find them and lock them up in the house are they likely to survive. But I never want to do that if the mother is alive. Since these were just born, I left them and sure enough she took them.
I hadn't thought about that, but yeah you're right. Guys would love that.
Yes, the toilet tank sits inside of the fish tank -- it's very water efficient. The fish don't get flushed down! That would rather defeat the purpose. LOL
They really do love one another! Last night there must have been five cats hanging around looking at the babies. I actually knew a Siamese cat (she was psycho) who would adopt kittens. I kid you not. One day I saw her trying to carry off one who was a full two months old!

Fun idea! Especially if one has cats and/or blokes in one's household.

Have you tried toilet-training Mephi and Lucifer?

Apparently they get addicted to flushing. They will spend hours flushing the toilet just to watch the water go down.
That can get expensive in drought-stricken Texas....
