In the circus, bears are expected to dance, and do it well

Which is to say, what's weird for other places is quite normal here.

So today [livejournal.com profile] nazgul_nr_5 came to have her picture taken in the complete Quidditch outfit she made herself. Many times, and in great detail.

Not out of any pointy vanity or something, merely for business reasons.

It's quite a warm day today, but for the sake of Authentic Quidditch, the Nazgul put on, in this order:

  • a hand-knitted Quidditch sweater

  • a pair of shin pads made out of padded naugahyde

  • a pair of knee pads, ditto

  • a huge Quidditch robe

  • a pair of warm black gloves (!!)

  • the left arm pad

  • the right arm pad, with which she needed my help at exactly one buckle

Then we went out into the second back courtyard, in the sun, and I took many pictures with her digital camera. In the middle of proceedings, she had to change batteries, but after trying to open the battery compartment with her gloved fingers for a while, she let me do it. She couldn't take off the gloves, you see, because she would have had to take off the arm pads as well.

While we were doing that, the Bulgarian woman the Metropolintans pay to clean all the staircases went back and forth about her business and smiled at us in a totally matter-of-fact way. She must have seen much odder things in our courtyards before, I guess.

Robe, sweater, and pads

The dreaded arm pad, and the gloves

Shin pads and knee pads (separate items)

The shoes are not authentic Quidditch wear, of course; they are the Nazgul's usual race driver's shoes. Tee-hee. As I know the Nazgul, she might even manage to buy Quidditch shoes somewhere. And then import them from Romania. Or something.

Good gracious that's detailed! I am most impressed and humbled by this costuming genius.

Wow, that's impressive! And definitely looks better than European football outfits. Made it all herself? *stares unbelievingly*

Um, how about racing broomsticks? Could I buy one? :-D

*whistles and is impressed* Do you know how she added the stripes, star, and the 4?

Hee. I always thought the first thing to do was to get rid of as many pads as you could get away with.

Oh LJ. No biscuit.
Skates are kind of...more on a level with bicycles. No?
Now I kind of miss that. Hmm.

Costuming chick

Thank you all very much for the kind comments!
Regarding stripes, stars and numbers: the stripes are sewn on, stars and numbers are painted as I would have gone mad if I had tried to sew them on. I constructed the stencil with a ruler. Actually I wanted to print it but I always forgot to do it (I can only print at work).
My next project will be a Wimbourne Wasps quidditch robe. I just need fabric for the lining.
BTW, I will get a separated LJ for the costuming things as I plan to join some communities that might be not so open minded regarding my artwork. ;-)

A selectively permeable membrane! Ah biology. So preferable to chemistry and physics. So...not requiring of math.
