Open Source Revelations, Part Two
I just installed OpenOffice.
I am as astonished and deliriously happy and in love with the software as I was when I first installed my beloved Firefox.
My MS Word had dies on me, and as I really feel like writing that AU fic with Lajos and Mr Pointy at the laundromat I had been talking to
schiarire about and didn't want to fall back on uncomfortable MSWrite, I took refuge to OO that I had only ever heard of.
It does PDF exports as a matter of course, with no Acrobat Distiller clunkiness! It makes mean, lean HTML documents! From Excel, the export of the members' list for
discworld_rpg into HTML made a 183 KB monster with totally effed-up font tags and all. Totally unmanageable, which is another reason why I left old Skibbereen, ahm, let the list fall to neglect.
OpenOffice Calc makes a file of 19 KB, which is eminently handle-able, so there is a chance of a new list with
maladict_ and everyone on it.
But the fic comes first! Their spellcheck so totally kicks ass, by the way - it even knows the Hungarian name Lajos...
