I just decided that redistributing what I had on my computer wasn't enough any more. Thanks to marchenland's helpful linkage, I can now make MP3s and have immediately proceeded to make some of things I have always been mentioning:

In a werid way, Nightwish's sound is similar to that of a band called Nightfist (http://music.download.com/nightfist/3600-8667_32-100047637.html). Hurrah metal.

You are right, that Melodic Metal style is eerily similar. With the marked difference that Nightfist somehow changes the melody during that song, and so far no vocals, either. But it sounds - very Nightwishy.

Wooo melodic metal. Is the Nighwish track some sort of LOTR soundtrack? Or is it just Tolkien-inspired?

Just generally fantasy-inspired. They mention figures from Finnish myth (Kalevala) as well. And then some.

It's the first track on their first album. Notice how Tarja Turunen, the singer, didn't know how to pronounce "sword" back then. In later live versions of the song, she gets it right.
