[livejournal.com profile] teriel is utterly, utterly brillliant:

This is exactly how I work with characters, be they original or RPage. In fact, invocation (which is what [livejournal.com profile] teriel is talking about in that article) is another way of describing what anyone has to do when working with a pre-existing character. In a fannish context, you invoke the character(s) defined by the source into yourself, and you invoke yourself, your own creative energy, into the powerful thought-form that any fandom-fed character becomes.

As for me invoking historical persons in order to write fiction about them, the technique is most obvious as well.  Now I come to think of it. It's one of those great mind-blowing eye-openers Teriel sometimes provides: I know I have been doing it as long as I can think, but he finally presents an actual system that lets me have a conscious look at what I am actually doing...

Thank you!!

It's Lilac Day in Ankh-Morpork, that is, the anniversary of the Treacle Mine Road uprising. Those in the know, spread the word; all others, please disregard.
