A collection of online dollmakers!

Beware if you tend to get addicted to that kind of thing...

My copy of 'Paragenesis' arrived yesterday! Now I have the book with my short story in on paper, to touch and carry around! Here it's lying face-down on one of the little outside tables of my favourite Italian café, where I was enjoying one of the last few nice days of the year while reading up on what everybody else wrote for it.

Today, my order from Evans arrived as well! I had to get Falk the Metropolitan to take some pics of me wearing it at once, as I can't possibly wait with posting about it on my tumblr until the Nazgul is back from the Fake Plastic Trees. Today she was in Muscat, haggling over the price of daggers...

Autumn arrived as well, so here you see my cats, cuddled up in my wonderful dark purple fleece blanket, being comfy and cosy. I have been mean to them by buying a little bottle of catnip scent oil with which I made them go doolally earlier. Anything can be turned into instant catnippy kitty lovedoll now!

Also, a discful of recent Bollywood music as MP3 arrived as well. I was at the Indian shop this afternoon, getting more chai spices, and when I took out my earphones to ask the bloke behind the counter about some Bollywood movies, I realised that my life contained entirely too much Medieval Scottish Heavy Metal Bagpipe Folk Rock, and not enough Bollywood, so I hastened to remedy that!

What did not arrive was episode 4.10 of 'Mad Men' on surfthechannel.com. They didn't even make an entry for it. I am worried...

I think this is the modern digital-photographic equivalent of what conscientious restorers of museum objects have been done for decades: when you put a Greek vase or a medieval garment back together for display, you use some contrastingly neutral material for the parts that are missing, plain grey linen among all the tyrian-purple-and-gold, or some white clay for the parts of the delicate red-figures vase that remains missing. If broken statues have hands, but not arms, they get steel bars or thin pieces of concrete.

This is what you do when you want to photoshop the background out from a candid picture of a celebrity and make a point of how honest you are, and that you're not 'shopping' the picture: you roughly outline the real object of the picture, then invert the selection and blur the rest. Roughly enough to leave that odd halo-like margin of in-focus background, but still well enough to focus solely on what you want to show.

I must admit it looks odd, but I guess we'll get used to it.-

Of course, Christina Hendricks looks stunning as always. And if this new principle gives me an excuse to repost the picture of her which I found it on, all the better...

There weren't that many new things this year in Kaltenberg, so this post gets a bit eclectic. For more general pictorial explanations, refer to the post from former years, found through the 'Kaltenberg' tag on my journal.

We went on a Sunday, which meant it was full of kids. That wasn't as bad, actually, as we'd thought. What was bad was that there were hardly any visitors in costume, and nobody cheered for the Black Knight, except us, more or less. We decided not to go on a Sunday again. If we get trouble with rain again, we'll just not go.

But on to the pictures! )

Most of my 'main' RP charries have been more or less gay, if they were male. Now, for the first time, I have a batshit insane mostly* straight bloke sharing my brainmeats on a regular basis.

He's been quite impressed by a number of women in [livejournal.com profile] milliways_bar and [livejournal.com profile] mixed_muses, but the most impressive of them was Saffrom, from Firefly.

What a woman! the 'headvoice' keeps going. How canny, skilful, clever, independent, beautiful, interestingly dangerous and enticingly devious! What stamina! What BOOBS!!

And I the poor Urq-ridden mun, after resisting steadfastly for weeks, yesterday gave in and borrowed 'Firefly' on DVD again. for the sole purpose of re-watching the two episodes with Saffron in them.

*sigh*

And then, today, this. The actress is, apparently, more or less the female lead in one of the three or five most cutting-edge TV series that haven't made it over here, and caught some flak over her dress at the Golden Globes, with a nasty side order of snide comments about her body shape (which latter infuriate me, no Urq involved).

"No", my inner!Urq comments, after thinking some crossbow-shaped thoughts and dismissing them. "She'll have their balls. Lightly sautéed. Will be fun to watch. No need to meddle. It's her, after all."

* Merc called him a 'three-beer queer', and yes, he'll do a bloke for the sake of novelty, if there are wings or other strangeness involved, to lace his pleasure with a little cruelty and domination, or to prove the point he has the morals of an alley cat and won't shy away from unconventional pleasures. But really, given the choice, he likes women. Unconventional independent ones with no false modesty, that take as good as they give, and aren't likely to make him apologise later.

Somebody linked to the place of an artist named Adam Wallacavage, in Philadelphia. Wow is that ever steampunk!!

I spent a great morning today drinking tea, watching Supernatural, reading, enjoying feline company, and taking some pictures. I'd recently pushed the furniture in my room around a little bit, and I think it works better than before. There seems to be more space.

I went with the ladies to sight-see and shop today; the usual city program, you know.

We got lucky and all found things we liked:

Here the ladies, with their new Simpson tee-shirts

And my new pretty smocked top with blue and purple paisleys -- there MUST be purple!!

It is still pissing down hard, and I am so pissed off by not being able to go to Kaltenberg, I even use rude vocabulary and don't thread because my charries would get mun bleed.

One single good thing today: new phone. Having it on hand means I get to take spontaneous pictures of the cats being cute.

Here is Mephi, for example, sitting on the TV and worshipping UFOs.

My kitties, canoodling.-

Don't say 'Bless you' -- that's what the lovely Art Nouveau bath is called, you know, the one where I go with [livejournal.com profile] nazgulwears  when I'm AWOL for an evening from the Intarwebz. I took these pictures a week ago, and promised to post them -- now I finally processed them, and here they are!

Sorry for the low quality of the pictures; you can't take better ones in a mirror, without the flash.-

Yesterday, I learned a few things about tattoos:

  • It's not a good idea to get one while drunk. Very inadvisable. The alcohol thins the blood, and you bleed profusely; while sober, you bleed very little.

  • It takes quite a while to get one done. A dragon that extends down the back and is even done in colour would take many hours, and would have to be done in several sessions. By no means would it be the product of one drunken night.

  • Nobody who has a tattoo themselves would consequently make someone else drunk and drag them to be tattooed as they'd know about the blood. If at all, they'd have to use other substances to space the recipient out.

  • A fresh tattoo is deep black; it turns blue as the ink settles under the skin. It needs care, must washed often and the skin must not be stretched too strongly as to make it settle evenly. A tattoo fades through its owner's lifetime and gets a paler and paler shade of indigo.

Why I know that? Because I got one myself, of course:

This is the blueberry bush and the redberry bush that Phia made for me.

Nobody ever heard of a redberry bush before, but Phia very logically claims if there are blueberry bushes, of course there are redberry bushes as well.
