Merry Christmas, world!
Dec. 25th, 2006 02:01 amI was tortured in a nativity play of abysmal badness, which I described in my German-language blog. I won't reiterate all that whining; you can't whine like that in English and stay bearable, serious, or either. I just mention it because we got to sing my old favourite Christmas carol, 'Angels We Have Heard On High', which is originally French and going mainstream this year, for some reason.
Only the singing congregations of Germany? Aren't aware of that fact yet. So my mother and I, almost the only people in the room to know it, sung down the whole sorry little town my sister lives in.
A few hours on, in the midnight mass with gospel choir? They had us sing that once again, even though there's nothing remotely gospel about it. I was going 'Glo-ho-ho-ho-ho, Ho-ho-ho-ho, Ho-ho-ho-ho HO-ria!! in excelsis deo!' with full gusto wile people around us were bewildered; but at least there was the (bloody brilliant!!) gospel choir to put paid to my meagre voice...
This was the third year we went there' and they've toned down their act a bit. Very much improving things in the process.-
