Funny thing is? I might be German, but from my ancestry, Dutch and Russian aren't far off. My family name was originally Russian, even though my ancestors were out and about in the eastern reaches of the German-speaking area (to put it neutrally) since the mid-17th century. And the ancestors on my other side were so westerly, when my great-grandmother went for a holiday in Holland, she came back telling people 'It was so nice to talk to people - they all speak our dialect!'
