She says they could not possibly sing enough for all that supper they get, though. Food keeps coming in large amounts, as does sightseeing and general cultural exchange - which is getting a tad stressful as they have concerts every night now. No time for drinking coffee, sound checks, and rehearsal. Still, their concerts are a great success. They played in front of a thousand people last last night, 500 tonight, and 300 the night before last. Those 300, not scared by bosses or professors, were the most enthusiastic, she said.

The actual enthusiasm of the crowds is hard to fathom, she says, because the Chinese also clap very briefly; also, their hosts cut off any real communication with fans very quickly. Just in case - she avoids using the 'D word'. As in dissident, I assume.-
