It bears repeating -- Chrome is the browser that runs best on the little EEE. While Firefox will die the slow death of Too Many Tabs on occasion, Chrome handles them with great ease.

And now that it is out of beta, Chrome has even ironed out the problems that kept driving me round the bend -- namely, the enormous greed for temporary disc space while updating, and the non-cooperation with Google's own Writely offline access. The update I got this morning was the very first that went through without the slightest hitch, apart from me having to clear the cache afterwards; and now, Writely synchronises as well, so I can beta-read in the train to Wiesbaden on Sunday.-

I know I am one of the very few people in the world that swear by Chrome. I know about the privacy issues, yes, and there still is the issue of blackboxy-ness as well -- I would really love it if I could tell Chrome to take itself and the Writely offline data to SSD D:\ because SSD C:\ is a poor little thing and has only 4 Gig of disc space, while the other has 8.

But nothing else works as well on the EEE, and even on the main comp I use Chrome to keep Gmail and my mun journal in. Its starting page is a brilliant idea -- the nine most frequented sites, arranged as handy icons. Gmail, mun journal, Milliways, Morningstar, Meebo, 1und1 web mail interface, SPON, ICHC, Wikipedia -- that's really where  I want to go most of the time. And the way you can tear off tabs to start a new window is very helpful as well -- I take all new tags from the inbox when coming online, then detach Gmail, and open Meebo in that window as well, while keeping all threads in the first instance, and adding new ones there.

Sorry, but I think Chrome is made of win.-
