I had a sorta dinner party yesterday, and the stats are rather interesting. I think it's interesting what people I know:
We consumed:
- there were six of us, four blokes, plus the Nazgul and I
- all six of us are computer people of some sort, above and beyond the level of 'user': web designers, database tamers and DTP layout professionals of a varying degree
- all six of us know our way around the works of Douglas Adams and Sir Terry Pratchett
- three of the blokes are gay; the fourth, when he realised that, did a double take, then recovered very quickly and gracefully
- the only one who confessed 'football doesn't do a thing for me' was the straight bloke
- the one who's going home for the 100th anniversary of the local football club next autumn is the Nazgul; she's from the Ruhr area of Germany, and football is important there; she confesses to having a 'black and yellow soul'
- three of us had studied Japanese at some point, and a fourth is learning parts of it for the sake of kendo
- the three that had studied it were still fanboying/-girling over the totally brilliant professor we had all had, independent of each other
- four of us have some sort of ties to and experiences with South Africa.
We consumed:
- one bottle of white wine
- two bottles of red wine
- two bottles of mead (hot)
- lots and lots of tea and water
- four packages of tortilla chips, and most of a large bowl of avocado dip (not!guacamole)
- most of a pot of pumpkin soup
- about a quarter of a chocolate nemesis; luckily, the straight bloke took another quarter home for his family (wife + 3 sons age 12, 9 and 3), who will be as dead by chocolate overdose today as we were last night
