Cute movie!

The Nazgul and I saw a very cute movie today.

It's more child-like than the last few Miyazaki movies, but does have its very adult, and very Japanese, moments. It's full of magic, as Miyazaki movies usually are, but what most impresses about the movie is the humanity of it.

But the end title song is terribly, terribly catchy, especially if you understand some Japanese. So I must warn you against clicking that link.

Aww, I love Ponyo.

The American dubbing has mini!Miley Cyrus and baby!Jonas brother in the main roles, AND they've done an English version of the title song, too. Blech.

Yes, I found that bleargh kind of title song on YouTube, too. Did they have it done by Li'l Alvin And His Rapping Chipmunks???

It was dubbed into German, but the songs (opening and end titles) were in Japanese. And 'Ponyo, Ponyo, sakana no ko...' is terribly catchy.

Urgh, I hate it. I have the dvd and I watched it with the English dubbing out of curiosity (Liam Neeson as Ponyo's father! Cate Blanchett as her mother! Other actors who are known for things in other roles!), but I much prefer the original with subtitles.

I just love the opening credits, and the fishwaves that Ponyo runs to get to land. :) It was very pretty, as Miyazaki's films always are. The song is terribly catchy, though. *hums*

I'm definitely getting the DVD so I can watch the original with subtitles when it comes out here.

Somehow, I feel like perhaps waking up my Japanese again.

Already available on the island. The movie is from 2008; seems it took ages to get from Japan all the way here...
