Hogwarts AU

After that wonderful Hogwarts AU for Milliways and Mixed Muses characters that Debi and I thought up and Debi ran in [livejournal.com profile] mixed_muses last weekend, for over a thousand tags?

There is proposed permanence or at least continuation, worked out by [livejournal.com profile] innerbrat, Grey, Kippur, July and me.

If you enjoyed it, reblog and pass it on! If you're not in Milliways, you're of course welcome as well. I don't know how long it'll last, but it was tremendous fun last weekend...

**considers apping a Wizarding World version of Andras, too**

Google +

I feel tempted to try Google + -- does anybody have a spare invite I could have?

Thanks in advance!

Got one! Who needs an invite, who wants to be added to circles?

My own cat on YouTube!

[livejournal.com profile] randomhaze found a video she'd taken when she was here two years ago, of Mephi attacking the washing machine.

So of course I put it up to show to everybody!

Beeb!

I guess most of everybody on my flist that is in Britain is going to watch this on Sunday, so I don't need to bother and try threading in Milliways while it's on?

It sounds bloody brilliant from the description. My friend [livejournal.com profile] japanologist pointed me to it, and quoted dialogue from the trailer:

Modern!Watson is standing in this total dump with the housekeeper [[Mrs. Hudson, I presume]], and the housekeeper says, "Oh we've got another bedroom upstairs for you, unless you'd like to share..." and turns around cutely. Watson staaaaares at her, and she goes, "Oh, we've got all sorts of people around here, you know!
Very nice people!"

Written by Stephen Moffat. With Rupert Graves, who shone quietly in 'Maurice' and 'V for Vendetta' as Lestrade. Produced by the BBC, who makes the best TV in the world anyway, at the moment.

Want!!!

Please, please, SurfTheChannel, don't fail me on this or on 'Mad Men', which is what the US Americans will be watching on Sunday instead of threading in Milliways...

Geek squee

Writely.

It's the thing for writing fic together. I'm writing in there just now, with [livejournal.com profile] essayel .

I have fallen in love!!! This is as earth-shattering as the first introduction to Firefox was to me.

Kudos to my friends at 'Red Bear House' for introducing me to it!

Cross-posted to morningstar_ooc on GJ. Sort of.

*vehemently and virtuously stamps on all impulses to want to RP at Morningstar Manor*

*consoles self* After all, [livejournal.com profile] asar_suti just got involved in another plot; there is enough to do in Milliways as it is.

Concert critique

The concert of the amateur orchestra [livejournal.com profile] nazgul_nr_5 plays cello in wasn't nearly as bad as I was warned to expect! Actually, it was quite good. The violins were off to a weak start, but the moment the oboe soloist began to play, they suddenly found their feet and kept them - apart from one truly horrorful moment at the end of the slow movement of that Haydn piano concerto they did as the second piece; that was so bad I felt like running out of the hall for a moment. But then the movement was over, there was a short moment where everybody took a deep breath, and the violins miraculously recovered again. The piano soloist was a bit too young, shy and bland to bang properly where she should have, though.

The second part of the concert, some symphony by a totally unknown contemporary of Mozart (they have a new one each time; I half-jokingly suspect the conductor sekritly writes them himself and invents the composers), I spent staring pleasantly into space and plotting evil for [livejournal.com profile] asar_suti, a Dark God Of Awesome Power I have consented to temporarily RP at the Crackbar. But fear not - I have not really succumbed! He'll be over before Christmas.

I was a bit disappointed, even, when the symphony suddenly broke into a blaring finale and fell silent, and there weren't any encores at all; I wasn't through with Asar-Suti yet.-

Milliways - is gooood...

Today, I got to get drunk with Jack Sparrow. Sort of. What an honour...

I must be careful not to be in [livejournal.com profile] milliways_bar too much, but like this, about once every two weeks,  I can handle the speed-on-crack aspect without becoming addicted.

I hope.

Do people  realise that asking Google or A9 for "Milliways" brings up the Dreaded Brain-Eater RPG to end all RPGs (as in [livejournal.com profile] milliways_bar) fifth? Of all the 4,860 references for "Milliways" that it could find?

Right after H2G2, the project started by DNA himself and now hosted by the BBC; a yacht thus named; a content-free project hogging the domain www.milliways.net; and some very, very weird Scandinavians?

And before the Wikipedia article?

Wow!!

Top of the meme pool, huh? I should take [livejournal.com profile] beth_metatronim in again tomorrow and give Meg Giry another spin over the lake.

Or perhaps even [livejournal.com profile] father_grigori, if Delia is there and can be talked to, or to make Paul explode with fury again...

Shriek!! Otto Chriek!

I was unhappy about the Oscars. I wanted Jack Sparrow to win, dammit!

But I had a pleasant surprise when the Best Actress trophy was presented - suddenly, there was Otto Chriek on my TV screen! As in [livejournal.com profile] ottochriek !!

It's customary to use some actor on the character icons on [livejournal.com profile] discworld_rpg, but I had no idea before who that charming gawky fellow on the icon for Otto was.

Turned out he's called Adrien Brody.

And is he ever Otto!! Tall and skinny, with a large nose and a big smile, slightly hyper and ever so enthusiastic. And that thing with the breath freshener was priceless. Our icons fit the characters rather well in most cases, but this Adrien Brody is Otto all the way; nobody else must be allowed to play Otto if there is ever any Discworld movie, which isn't very likely at the moment. I'd cast Alan Rickman as Havelock Vetinari (the Nazgul has a picture where he looks totally like the Patrician, minus a beard); otherwise, I have no preferences. Thank you, universe; you can go to work now and bring it all about...

In other news, I have figmented off again and am now playing [livejournal.com profile] pteppicymon as well in the [livejournal.com profile] discworld_rpg. I must be mad; now I can metapost all over the place if I get muddled. Vee ([livejournal.com profile] ponderstibbons) kindly explained to me what metaposting is.-

I bought the DVD of "The Thin Red Line" entirely because it has Adrien Brody in it and I want to see more of him; "The Pianist" is still too expensive. I'll see whether Falk the Metropolitan has it first. And I bought a CD everyone owns, as a rule, but I had given my copy away seven years ago. I didn't realise how much I missed Kurt Cobain singing "Lake of Fire"...
