Open letter to my big red cat

Dear cat,

no, you can't have any more olive ciabatta. The olive ciabatta is finished, and, considering our relative sizes, you had significantly more of it than I did.

And no, as we are talking, I can't feed you solely on olive ciabatta, South Tyrolean bacon, fried liver in sour cream sauce, tuna, and the leftover milk from cereals, warmed and thinned by adding some tea.

Those are supposed to be human foods. I know you like them, but you do have to eat cat food.

You are a cat, savvy?

Love,
your amused human

Well, that just made me even hungrier, soon I get lunch. Lucifer needs to learn to share.

They sound adorable and Lucifer makes sure that Mephi knows his place in the household order.

I'm curious, what makes South Tyrolean bacon so good that the place name gets added?

That sounds delicious and I will someday.

You and your cat have good taste.

What kind of liver?

Should I feel healthy if mine also demand bell peppers?* This week horrible-I cruelly let them starve after six months of having to spoon feed Kendra after one time giving in (it progressed from moving the bowl ever downwards).

(If they don't eat by tomorrow, I'll have to start that again. It got so bad that Kobold is only drinking bloody water out of my hand/from my finger.)

* Probably not since she mostly comes running for chocolate, even white.

Pfft, no fish please, we're cats. Nor turkey, or any other lightly prepared concotion. Only dry cat food - for a random* limited time until they decide to gorge only on something else; they would eat caviar-priced veterinary diet and milk and yogurt and ice cream every day. Also african violets. They went off cheese which proves there's no milk in cheese anymore.

* read: right after I bought 10 kg of it.

Milk is never good for them. They are like humans and want it nevertheless.

ETA: and by starve I mean they don't clean their plates three times a day and wait for the midnight snack. Only my neighbour thinks they aren't their ideal weight.

Are cats good at knowing what they can and can't eat? Or will they eat whatever you give them if it looks vaguely nummy?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_inbetween_/ 2011-02-25 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
They learn by observation, hence can eat stuff that is bad or lethal to them if it happens to have interested them or smelled yummy, though they are unfathomably more picky than dogs.

Erm.

Cough.

*points at own cats*

And they aren't even that stupid! They just like chocolate. And things that give them stomach ulcers, like chives.

He does like his baked goods, doesn't he? My cats prefer bugs. They've never gone after bread.
