Today, I

  • made an appointment with my bank to resolve a potential problem before it comes up, which is a good start, as my general approach to all matters bureaucratic is usually more ostrich-like in nature;
  • went to see a very funny movie by the same director who had made 'Run, Lola, Run' (and 'The Perfume', but we better forget about that one). It was about a straight couple that have been together for twenty years when they independently meet and fall in love with the same man. It's called 'Three', and I warmly recommend it; I'm sure it'll make its way abroad, just as 'Lola' did. It has the cutest thing in the credits, but I can't really tell what it is without handing you a giant mega-spoiler, which I don't want to do as I'd rather have people enjyo the movie;
  • went to the only shop where they sometimes have bran flakes at an affordable price, and found they had so much of it, there was even some left when I was done; and I now have bran flakes for weeks and weeks of happy breakfasts with my cats:
  • got the most wonderful [livejournal.com profile] milliclaus gift from [livejournal.com profile] wanderlustlover, who made me an Urquhart fanmix following his canonical backstory, and linked me to icon resources I hadn't known before. I have been exchanging a quarter of Urq's icons since I came home after movie and shopping.

And now, mulled wine and RP! Not too long, though, as I mean to get up at nine tomorrow for the eclipse.-

From the Department for Silly Lurgies:
I have the Turbo Cold, I think. Yesterday around lunchtime, I started feeling a scratch in my throat, last night when I came home I felt feverish and woozy, after a nap my throat really hurt and I needed sage and honey tea while unable to eat, then around midnight my brain and throat cleared up while my nose started running, now throat and nose are mostly fine and I started a little cough. This is a week's progress on a non-accelerated cold, within 24 hours. I guess I'll keep coughing slightly for a day or two (coughs stay for a while after the rest of the lurgy is gone), and then the thing will be history.

From the Department of Silly Gadgets:

I just got my laptop cooling pad. It does work, at least with the EEE. It's a little tilted raised platform with no-slip rubbery leg things, and three computer fans. It came quite cheap. It does cause a constant hum, but that's a small price to pay for having my valuable machinery cooled down while in use. I'll now turn off the EEE and try it with my main computer. Which I need anyway to make a 'secret' graphic or two for today's DE...

From the department for sporting behaviour:
People are putting on their game faces and were scurrying through the streets in moderate football rags and with drinks, in order to go see their team fail in failure the game for third place. There is sound of party and chatting and distant TV football in our courtyards. But no vuvuzelas.-

From the department for free entertainment:
I, however, am watching 'Colour of Magic'.  Jeremy Irons is hamming it horribly as Vetinari (apart from the part where the Patrician in the first few books isn't yet Vetinari, just as the Archchancellor isn't Ridcully). It's terribly over the top, and Twoflower not being Chinese is something I do count as racefail. Also, having the Librarian in human-shape already be short, squat, and reddish-haired is silly. But it's for free on the telly, hence costs me no money nor computer time. And it's not football.

From the department for feline exercise:
My cats are a bit livelier now it's no longer quite as hot. Mephi just jumped five feet high, in order to catch an insect. He caught it, too. My little black cat is quite sportsy.

Would you believe it, the moment I get a space all of my own like this where I can put many months worth of blah and hoo, my mind is suddenly as empty as a dry bathtub? There is no effing thing worthwhile to write. Only the small and unimportant things to report like the entity entrusted with getting rid of all superfluous work having done his job very well, and my DVD player slowly losing its mind (only recognises old DVDs it has seen before and is increasingly unable to take in anything new; what an odd thing to do), some idle fun with me speculating what all sorts of persons and characters would be like if reincarnated as Wraeththu.

We all know what tribe Snape, for example, would be if he was reborn as a Wraeththu a few centuries from now, but imagine Sherlock Holmes being reincarnated in that future - he's so screwed up, he'd prolly be a Kamagrian to start with - and so on and on and on... What a cuddly little bunny to while away the day with while one feels a bit off-colour. Yes, and the little ghosts and pumpkin lights I hung up yesterday are doing well, too.

The Nazgul has suggested an impromptu Halloween party for tomorrow, no dressup and no guests, only watching scary movies and eating pumpkin stuff. Unfortunately, the Russian shop is still out of pumpkin juice. I went in there today and forgot I was wearing my gold-on-black Rasputin tee shirt. I only noticed the moment I walked in that shop, but didn't want to turn back as I'd especially gone out to get the juice (which they didn't have). So, I snatched my coat round me when already on their threshold, pretending all the while I was cold while I was in there to keep the piccie of good old Grigori Efimovich from peeking out at those good people who keep the shop and potentially spooking them badly, or at least making them wary of me.
I bought some obnoxious sweets, then, as not to leave the place empty-handed after having come especially and pretending it was underheated.

In another shop, I bought three more Hokkaido pumpkins. And two purple heather bushes.-

We were offline off and on today, and the Metropolitan Falk said the sun spots were to blame. I laughed at him and suggested he was having me on because he was to lazy to re-start the DSL thinggie, but later on, when we were online again, read Telepolis and discovered he hadn't lied after all: there have been sunspots on for the last few days. Might that be the reason why we were offline at work yesterday and the day before? The damn *elekom has already admitted to having spontaneously switched off our leased line, but might the sunspots have affected their measly Saxonian brains? In any case, we are having sunspots, so I am prolly excused for being moody and reincarnating everyone as Wraeththu, the Russians are excused for not having any pumpkin juice, and the Internet is excused for occasionally not being there if it doesn't feel like it.
