I have arrived, and am on the lovely free WLAN in the lovely hostel, in an apartment of a really old house bang in the centre of town! I will venture forth soon and find fudz, but some fun things from the journey first:

  • the Austrians like really odd roofs -- low  round ones, or very, very sharply steep ones; by the same token, there seems to be a fashion for really brightly colourful houses! Wow that blue!
  • they offer some strange services -- I saw a sign for 'Self-Sevice Lance Washing' from the train
  • ditto, a car dealership called Tuppinger -- I do really not wish to imagine any possible connection between cars and sheep-shagging!
  • when we were waiting in Villach to have our carriages connected to the train to Ljubljana (which goes on to Zagreb, which is properly Balkan), my MP3 player changed from 'Gladiator' to 'Chocolat' all of a sudden. I srota did a double-take on that

So, and now I am off roaming the city a bit and finding fudz -- back later, to post daily happiness part 7. But I wouldn't praise the day before the evening...

Down he drain went:
  • the heating in our favourite art nouveau swimming pool -- seems that Munich is too broke to heat the water properly. That's our contribution to the world economic crisis. Dear Barack Obama -- please make it go away!
  • my nose -- it is leaking! It has no business to do so. It's bona fide spring now.
  • the card reader at the office building around the corner. Perhaps it works for the consulting roaches, but the poor charwoman who tried in vain to get in, couldn't. She looked very scruffy, and I felt sorry for her.

At least there is no conficker on my computer. I checked.

Association Meme: Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.

I asked three times so far, and failed to answer, due to being sick and working too much, in turns.

[livejournal.com profile] innerbrat gave me: Tales of the Cheysuli, Goths, Germany, Aunthood, Milliways.

[livejournal.com profile] ceitfianna gave me: Goths, Axe, Gods, Purple, Nazgul

[livejournal.com profile] essayel gave me: Spirituality, Robb as in J D, Teja, Plant as in Robert, Fan

Now, let me get this in some sort of order. )

Belgium!!!

That's the worst curse in the universe, according to Douglas Adams.

So far, I had only ever heard of three good things ever to come out of Belgium:

Last night, [livejournal.com profile] daniidebrabant called my attention to the existence and prettiness of one Jeremie Renier, and lo and behold, he's from Belgium as well. And very much worth looking at; Danii is right.

So, four good things to come out of Belgium. That is almost enough justification for the place to exist.

[[Disclaimer: this is a joke. I do not detest any nationality on Earth, not even the Texans. [livejournal.com profile] japanologist and I have long made a running gag out of complaining about Belgium, though, so the fourth good thing amused me mightily.]]

My for-pay job's fair booth (well, beautiful giant red-and-white contraption, really) from the Systems computer trade fair  was on TV for a few seconds last night. Neither my boss nor the pinscher was at all visible, though. They'd said the TV team had spent an hour filming there yesterday.-

In other news: can somebody please extrude the popular three-letter acronym "TMI" for me? Vee? Wiebke? Anyone? I have an idea what it might mean, but no idea what it actually translates to.

In any case, I think what I'm going to say is tantamount to perpetrating a TMI, so I'll put it behind a cut in case of the very, very outside chance that I actually ended up on the flist of some male person. Do I know anybody male? Huh. I'm not sure about [livejournal.com profile] supiluliumas, but the rest of you most prolly isn't.

Teh cut to protect Supi-if-male and any others from squicky things )

"Systems" today, with the Nazgul. We need new cotton bags. And Thomas the Metropolitan has told me of a brilliant new software we absolutely need to see, although I think he was mostly impressed by the young man who was telling him about it, heh!

And tomorrow, Nightwish concert in Nuremberg, with the Nazgul as well. We only have seats, no arena cards, but we don't want to enter the fray this time, really. It's not Apo, after all. These people don't know us, so why should we defy death and pogo-dancing kiddies to be in the first row?

Spent the evening watching TV and keeping an eye out for things that have gone mainstream:

Slash pairings: There was no real reason to have that pair of soldiers in that historical documentary about King Tutmosis III. of Egypt (who was extremely pretty

himself in that thing whenever not represented by his own mummy), the Nubian pro and the enlisted Egyptian peasant, starting out fighting each other,

and in the end doing the Suffering Male thing when the peasant dies in the battle and the Nubian is totally heartbroken. So classic. Sigh! My OTP for tonight: Ahmose/Nakht!!

And yes, it had chariots. Done decently. Quite unlike Troy.

"On crack": And just afterwards (not in the documentary, of course!), I heard some talking head say "on crack" for the first time in German, in TV, in exactly the same sense in which [livejournal.com profile] schiarire and others have made it popular.

"To be on crack" is "unter Crack stehen" (for [livejournal.com profile] wiebke or whoever else is interested).

Wiebke interviewed me again )

If you want me to interview you--post a comment that simply says, "Interview me." I'll respond with questions for you to take back to your own journal and answer as a post. Of course, they'll be different for each person since this is an interview and not a general survey. At the bottom of your post, after answering the Interviewer's questions, you ask if anyone wants to be interviewed.

This interview meme went around among the Wraeththuites months ago, and now it's come round again among the RPG people. So, I asked [livejournal.com profile] fahye to interview me again.

Here are her questions and my answers - cut for ego )

Yesterday, I learned a few things about tattoos:

  • It's not a good idea to get one while drunk. Very inadvisable. The alcohol thins the blood, and you bleed profusely; while sober, you bleed very little.

  • It takes quite a while to get one done. A dragon that extends down the back and is even done in colour would take many hours, and would have to be done in several sessions. By no means would it be the product of one drunken night.

  • Nobody who has a tattoo themselves would consequently make someone else drunk and drag them to be tattooed as they'd know about the blood. If at all, they'd have to use other substances to space the recipient out.

  • A fresh tattoo is deep black; it turns blue as the ink settles under the skin. It needs care, must washed often and the skin must not be stretched too strongly as to make it settle evenly. A tattoo fades through its owner's lifetime and gets a paler and paler shade of indigo.

Why I know that? Because I got one myself, of course:

Cut for OUCH potential )
