yakalskovich: The Nazgul and I in nun costumes at Kaltenberg posing with a bloke dressed as Jack Sparrow (Jack Sparrow makes nuns happy!)
Ahh it was a good day, and there was so much, and I am so pleasantly tired from it, I can just enumerate it all quickly:

  • Woke up early, had good thread with the Nocturnal Americans
  • Yay plot is really coalescing and getting underway -- to think this was started as a mere stopgap measure!
  • Cats majorly cute!
  • Eeeeeeee Supernatural! But why is heaven's waiting room so rococo? Also, WTG, Bobby!
  • Left on time, came to the station, no trains -- people somewhere on the rails! Gah, why didn't they just flatten the idiots, they were ASKING for a Darwin Award!
  • Caught a tram to the Underground station, texted the Nazgul I was coming
  • Caught the Underground, where there is no net
  • Was majorly late, but when I arrived at the cinema, my ticket was waiting for me at the box office where the Nazgul had deposited it (clever Nazgul!) as I hoped she would
  • Went in, found the Nazgul
  • Watched the last commercial, then the movie started
  • Loved the movie -- review under spoiler cut to follow tomorrow!
  • EEEEEEEE Hikaru Sulu's collapsible katana was the coolest thing EVAH! And against a Romulan with an honest-to-god  battle axe!
  • Trains ran again when I went home
  • Bought mozzarella, made me the most luscious mozza-tomato-basil salad for dinner
  • Had more nice thread, including Captain Jack Harkness
  • Cats still majorly cute
  • More tomorrow!

Good night!
yakalskovich: (Mephisto)
Yesterday, my friend [livejournal.com profile] nazgulwears came to our usual Sunday session of movies and cooking with a  ginormous ex-military duffel bag on her back.

When she put it down in my living room, it looked exactly as if it contained one small murder victim. The cats, naturally, were immensely intrigued by it!

See the mystery revealed! )

Afterwards, we watched 'Black Hawk Down'; and after that, the Nazgul made a very yummy South African casserole dish containing mango chutney, minced beef, onions, curry powder and raisins; I'm sure she'll post the recipe to [livejournal.com profile] collected_fudz if we wheedle nicely. In the meanwhile, as my Milli!Teja is in Team Fortress 2 being a BLU soldier (as I said, colour choice entirely unrelated to kendo) and I can't EP or tag out otherwise at the moment, I finished and posted a loooooong backstory fic I had been working on since Friday. Then, we watched 'Me And The Colonel', which the Nazgul spontaneously loved and almost missed her train for. All the while, that small murder victim was sitting in its duffel bag beside my Biedermeier cupboard...

That is not a black background, that's a transparency. You can add your own background, or whatever background the site you use him on may have...

Thus spake the Nazgul, by Y!M:

I read that the Munich city council has forbidden all the public containers where charities collect used clothes because they make the city look scruffy. It won't belong until a general all-day curfew because the inhabitants spoil the nice cityscape.

So, here are the newest pictures. Lots of cute stuff: the little lady, the luckdragon, the kitty...

Svava the cat in her new lair

Go for the cute!! )

In other news: I have no meat! Not a single item of meat fit for human consumption in the place. I need to buy some tomorrow.

That comes from schmooping with the kitty all day instead of doing the shopping. And from RPing a thread of 111 tags in Morningstar Manor, (Link superfluous, as it is f-locked. Because. Erm. Yes. That's the rule in MM for that kind of thread.)
yakalskovich: (Blacherniotissa)
Remember Pope Palpatine?

Seems the Protestant church is't any better. Just see what inredible evidence [livejournal.com profile] nazgul_nr_5 uncovered today:

[livejournal.com profile] nazgul_nr_5  and I just watched 'Riddick', because her father (an uber-geek like she) had recommended it.

There was talk of some prophecy, and the Nazgul took umbrage to that, being as she was reminded of 'Star Wars' too much.

Consequently, thus spake the Nazgul: "I'll prophesy something as well, now: the next prophet gets their face bashed in!"
yakalskovich: (The Princess' typist in RW)
Also, Star Wars III. You should have seen the Nazgul - she was so wibbly on the way there, and before the movie started, I almost felt impelled to put a ball-and-chain to her Jedi boots so she wouldn't take off with excitement.

And then there was Darth Vader in the cinema, to general applause:

And then, instead of ads and normal trailers, they showed the five old Star Wars trailers, beginning with a pinkish, grainy original from 1977, to general cheers and mounting excitement.

And then it began.

I explained to 'Tweeny and Sal last night why I liked this movie better than Episodes I. and II., so I'm not going to bore you with it again.

And now, on popular demand, more kitty pics:

What wonderful yellow eyes she has!!

More kitty pics, and the Nazgul in Jedi outfit, behind the cut )
So - I hope that's enough cat for the time being for all of you who wanted to see more. If I see her doing something very noteworthy, I will take more pics, of course. Plus, tell you a secret: when I'm not taking pictures, she's even much cuter! She can be very energetic, almost dementedly so, also very gentle (when she bites, or pushed my hand around with her paw, it never hurts at all!), and so very, very schmoopy at times.

I will miss her when she goes back to her usual people next Saturday; but first, I get to enjoy her more than a week longer...
yakalskovich: (The Princess' typist in RW)
Now I've got that digital camera, I can't stop taking pictures...

Yesterday, I took some of my friend [livejournal.com profile] nazgul_nr_5 wearing her new Jedi outfit, which she needed to get it certified by the semi-official Star Wars costuming group. Apparently, there is such a thing - George Lucas understands fandom, it seems, quite unlike She Who Must Not Be Named and then some...

Anyway, during that photo session, I captured a few impressions of what Jedi Knights do while off duty...

Ever wanted to see a Jedi in socks? )
yakalskovich: (The Princess' typist in RW)
Just had dinner with [livejournal.com profile] nazgul_nr_5; we had salmon with a herb crust, roast potatoes that had gone into the oven with it, and broccoli with pine nuts roasted in butter - very good. Delicious. 'Suti must cook that with Gil at the Crackbar, at some stage.-

Well, we listened to the pre-pre-Mariachi music and talked, and the Nazgul produced Nazgulisms by the minute. I dat there and though, blast, why can't I put that on [livejournal.com profile] milliquotes? You do get spoiled by online life.

Well, the best one was that: we were talking about swimming, and I told her how that had been the thing for me while she said she'd never really liked it, she found the deep water so scary under her, thinking it went down so deep. She could dive well, but just about  2.5 metres, then she found it scary.

She then thought for a moment and went, "Somehow idiotic to suffer from underwater vertigo, isn't it?"

My for-pay job's fair booth (well, beautiful giant red-and-white contraption, really) from the Systems computer trade fair  was on TV for a few seconds last night. Neither my boss nor the pinscher was at all visible, though. They'd said the TV team had spent an hour filming there yesterday.-

In other news: can somebody please extrude the popular three-letter acronym "TMI" for me? Vee? Wiebke? Anyone? I have an idea what it might mean, but no idea what it actually translates to.

In any case, I think what I'm going to say is tantamount to perpetrating a TMI, so I'll put it behind a cut in case of the very, very outside chance that I actually ended up on the flist of some male person. Do I know anybody male? Huh. I'm not sure about [livejournal.com profile] supiluliumas, but the rest of you most prolly isn't.

Teh cut to protect Supi-if-male and any others from squicky things )

"Systems" today, with the Nazgul. We need new cotton bags. And Thomas the Metropolitan has told me of a brilliant new software we absolutely need to see, although I think he was mostly impressed by the young man who was telling him about it, heh!

And tomorrow, Nightwish concert in Nuremberg, with the Nazgul as well. We only have seats, no arena cards, but we don't want to enter the fray this time, really. It's not Apo, after all. These people don't know us, so why should we defy death and pogo-dancing kiddies to be in the first row?
yakalskovich: (Default)
The Nazgul and I watched "Buffalo Soldiers" last night, with Joaquin Phoenix in it.

What a wonderful movie; we totally laughed our heads off.

And Joaquin Phoenix!! So utterly, utterly cool!! Skazz!!! Squeee!!!!

I am so taking screen caps of some of it before it goes back to Falk the Metropolitan. Any special scene you want caps of, Ashie?

Coffee

Aug. 3rd, 2004 11:15 am
yakalskovich: (The Princess' typist in RW)
Coffee is a wonderful stuff. Truly.

I'll take a moment to sing its praises, then, as I am waiting for it to fully kick in so I can go on working. After three hours of concentration, I found my fingers motionless on the keyboard, and my face yawning.

That may be a result of lying in the grass of a public square and watching "Pirates of the Caribbean" under the stars till one at night. [livejournal.com profile] nazgul_nr_5 and I were suffering a lot, though, because that was the first time we had to see the dubbed German version. The translators should be taken out and shot. Especially the one who had decided to translate "Savvy?" as "Alles klar soweit?" - [livejournal.com profile] wiebke and [livejournal.com profile] woelfle will know how horrible that is. We groaned every time it was repeated. Nobody will ever be allowed to say "Alles klar soweit?" to me again without getting a very rude answer. "Why is the rum gone?" was translated as "Warum ist der Rum weg?", which has a certain something. The running gags with the "opportune moment" and the "effects" got completely bungled and were as gone as the rum.

Still, it was fun to watch it on a huge screen in the fresh evening air, with real actual moonlight overhead, sitting on a picnic blanket on the lawn and having some sort of picnic. In fact, my tiredness may have something to do with the rum with coke we had very artfully smuggled inside; you really couldn't call it coke with rum. The Nazgul had made it; it was a very Nazgulish brew. She called it cough syrup.-

Or I might be tired because I went to bed at two, to sleep still a bit later after thinking at length about even more things I am going to draw, and started out again at six in the morning. I had thought I would be able to take the morning off or at least be late, but databases spontaneously wanted re-organising, which has to happen before everybody else arrives. So here I was, re-organising damn databases, and almost dropping off my perch.

Luckily, Our Mithreth herself made the coffee today, and it fulfills all the clichés there are about coffee being black as death and strong as love - sweet as sin optional, and I opt out, thank you. Not out of sin, if there is such a thing, but out of sweet coffee.

That coffee of hers has a mind of its own. It picks you up and kicks you around until you plead for mercy and are as awake as you can get. You should never try it while being drunk, because it would sober you up and push you right out on the other side of sobriety where no sane person can go and stay sane. Knurd, you know, as Terry Pratchett calls it.

Luckily, I wasn't even overhung, just tired - and the Black Brew has worked its magic on me now, so I can continue with my work. If the damn pinscher finally consents to give me a final version of the text I have to spam unsuspecting customers with. One of these days, I will become guilty of cruelty against pinschers...
yakalskovich: (The Princess' typist in RW)
Which is to say, what's weird for other places is quite normal here.

So today [livejournal.com profile] nazgul_nr_5 came to have her picture taken in the complete Quidditch outfit she made herself. Many times, and in great detail.

Not out of any pointy vanity or something, merely for business reasons.

It's quite a warm day today, but for the sake of Authentic Quidditch, the Nazgul put on, in this order:

  • a hand-knitted Quidditch sweater

  • a pair of shin pads made out of padded naugahyde

  • a pair of knee pads, ditto

  • a huge Quidditch robe

  • a pair of warm black gloves (!!)

  • the left arm pad

  • the right arm pad, with which she needed my help at exactly one buckle

Then we went out into the second back courtyard, in the sun, and I took many pictures with her digital camera. In the middle of proceedings, she had to change batteries, but after trying to open the battery compartment with her gloved fingers for a while, she let me do it. She couldn't take off the gloves, you see, because she would have had to take off the arm pads as well.

While we were doing that, the Bulgarian woman the Metropolintans pay to clean all the staircases went back and forth about her business and smiled at us in a totally matter-of-fact way. She must have seen much odder things in our courtyards before, I guess.

See the Nazgul melt inside her Quidditch outfit )

This is the day, the remarkable day, that I thought would never come, when pigs flew and - the Nazgul got an LJ!!!

I just took all her money off the Nazgul. Don't know how I did it, but she just handed it over...

ETA: this was at the Aussie pub, after "Secret Window", when we were getting our last pennies together for another round of Foster's. We got gloriously drunk...

Yesterday, with the help of half a bottle of Madeira, the Nazgul managed to calculate the following for me: given that the [livejournal.com profile] discworld_rpg has eaten 100% of my brain, I am now, due to my distribution of characters in said RPG, 0.4 or two-fifth of a vampire.

Owing to that fact, I have now (midnight) turned in my review of "Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas" to Areion where it will be coming up sometime tomorrow (Tuesday; technically today) and will proceed to finish the translation for [livejournal.com profile] japanologist before posting Teppic's next post and then sleeping a bit before the Morning Session.

I did tugelbend today for quite a while, though. So I will probably be all right.

Also, the Nazgul will look into animating songsets. And she so needs an LJ...

This year is one of those rare years when Orthodox and western Easter co-incide. So, there's Orthodox Easter liturgies all over the place tonight as well.

The Nazgul and I, being westerners with weird Orthodox leanings, have decided we'll go to the Greek Orthodox Easter liturgy tonight - it starts at nine this evening and goes on until all hours. We decided the forgo the Russians, who are Exile (at least the Munich parish is, I mean) and thus stuck in 1917 a bit - the last time we were there, I was asked to cover my head! For some reason, the Nazgul wasn't, even though she's loads more hair and did take off her funny hat with three bells on it...

This means, however, that I shall totally fail to appear for the Wraeththu chat tonight. I might even miss parts or most of the Morning Session at the [livejournal.com profile] discworld_rpg. I might catch Victor, TJ or Skazz, but will probably totally miss Ponder, who might be fast asleep before I ever return home at all.

Orthodox Easter must be very special - Grigori Rasputin, who once witnessed Catholic Easter on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem in 1911, was very disappointed with that and complained those poor people weren't even properly joyful at Easter. So, the Nazgul and I are anticipating much spiritual joyfulness tonight.

Background: we've been of the opinion for some time now that Orthodox Christianity is actually very much the up and coming religion for modern people and will in the fullness of time do to Buddhism in the West what Buddhism has done to Western Christianity. Our attitude is slightly cynical, we are quite aware. And the link is in German. Sorry for all this.
yakalskovich: (The Princess' typist in RW)
I've got visitors for a week - the Nazgul's fledgling Fell Beasts, deceptively masquerading as budgies. But they're the Nazgul's, and they're mean and loud, so they're very probably Fell Beasts.

They're fell enough, anyway. It don't put it beyond them to take off a man's head even now. Or at least someone's finger.

The Nazgul swears she'll get her own LJ, especially after commenting anonymously to an entry of [livejournal.com profile] tahira_saki 's last night - the Nazgul so sees the need for it. She even has a proper Nazgulish icon already.

It remains to be seen how many months she will take until she actually does it.
yakalskovich: (Default)
I can't sleep next night at all. No time for it. First there'll be the Wraeththu chat plus I promised the Nazgul (who still has no LJ!!) I'd be around in WorldsAway.

Then there'll be the Formula 1 race from Melbourne, and as that revolting Schumacher always wins when I am not watching (and most of the times I am, bleagh!!) and it's the first race in the season and everything, I want to watch it. Although I might very well end up a) swearing like a pirate at the injustice of it all or b) falling asleep from sheer boredom.

Query: does anyone else here like Formula 1 and race drivers at all, or are the Nazgul and I total freaks and outsiders in that respect?

Then there will be the bright morning sun in my window, some strong coffee for me, and perhaps some Aussies/student wizards at the [livejournal.com profile] discworld_rpg to talk to.

So, it's off to bed for me now. Is there any place in the world where it's legitimately night now? Hawaii, perhaps? Should I pretend I was on Hawaii? Ahm, if I was, I probably wouldn't sleep.-

In other news: the above  idea of [livejournal.com profile] minkhollow 's is a charmingly cynical and very apt remake of the 60s slogan "Frodo for President" as seen on many period stickers. I must admit I myself, although I'm not an American per se, would much rather be ruled by Lord Vetinari than anyone who's actually available for the job in RL at the moment. And that has nothing to do with me playing [livejournal.com profile] margolotta and being somewhat smitten with the man...

EDIT a few hours later: As for after that coffee, the Nazgul and I have just been given free tickets to a symphonic matinee concert tomorrow at eleven, oh my...
